Become an organic farmer - apply for organic funding now

If you wish to become an organic farmer, you need to know the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme Application Window is now open for funding applications.

The Scottish Government AECS Scheme is open for organic conversion and maintenance applications until 7th June 2023, but don't leave it to the last minute. Call us now for all the ins-and-outs of organic applications.

There are new changes in the 2023 application round:

there is now no cap on the maximum claimable hectares for any of the four land category payment rates for organic conversion or maintenance applications.
the Fruit & Veg payment category definition has been updated.
the Organic Viability Proposal (OVP) template required for conversion applications has been updated.

If you are in your fifth year of organic maintenance, or you don’t have a maintenance funding contract in place, you should look to apply now for a new five-year organic funding contract.

We recommend you check when your current contract ends to avoid a gap in funding.

Likewise, if you are planning to bring additional land into conversion, or you know of a neighbour who is considering converting their business to organic management make them aware that this year’s AECS application round is open and SOPA can help.

We are on hand to guide you through the organic conversion timelines and AECS application process.  Plus, SOPA can even act as your agent for organic conversion and maintenance applications so contact us to find out more.

If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact SOPA Member Services on 0300 772 9795 or email us for one-to-one support.

All AECS funding applications are subject to scrutiny and approval by Scottish Government.
