Defra announce decision on the Livestock Sector Proposal
26th March 2009On March 25 Defra officially responded to the UK organic certification bodies that it will not be possible under Council Regulation (EC) 834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) 889/2008 for non-organic non-GM feeding of organic animals on organic holdings.
This confirms the position taken by the SOPA Board, the SOPA Technical Advisory Committee and members who have disagreed with the Proposal.
In the same response, Defra have confirmed that any extended conversion periods will be managed by the certification bodies on a case by case basis, and in respect to funding agreements relating to organic conversions.
