North East Organic Discussion Group – Second Meeting

Date: 29th May 2017

Time: 13.30pm to 16.30pm

Location: Gathering at Upper Wheedlemont, AB54 4LL (NJ 476 262) courtesy of Alastair Wilson for on-farm discussion and then move to Rhynie Church Hall, 14 The Square.

Upper Wheedlemont is a well-established organic farm producing finished cattle and sheep using home produced barley, forage crop and making good use of grass/clover.

The meeting will focus on the production and utilisation of grass/clover for finishing stock, look at the paddock grazing system, soil structure and pH (including results from group benchmarking). 

Grant Ireland, Organic Procurement for McIntosh Donald, will also be on hand to give an update on the current organic red meat market.

The North East Organic Farming Discussion Group has been established and funded through the Farm Advisory Service (FAS), facilitated by SAC.  It is planned that four half day meetings will take place in 2017. 

The group is Free to join for existing organic producers and those considering converting their business to organic management within the area.
