Organic Standards apply to Simple Food Processing such as

  • Cleaning
  • Peeling, chopping and slicing
  • Packing and repacking (for instance box schemes)
  • Blending where the nature of the food is not changed eg muesli
  • situations where the nature of the food is not changed eg flour mlling or butchery cutting

Simple food processors can be on-farm premises or dedicated units.

It is not always apparent whether food processing is Simple or more complex.
